Two Visit National Circuit

Amelia Potasznik and Margaret Beasley traveled to California for the Compete Nationals held in Pomona, which is located just outside of Los Angeles . The Saturday competition consisted of Black Belt only divisions, with the exception of some team form divisions. Extreme and specialty divisions were held on Friday evening and lower belt competition was held on Sunday. Compete Nationals is NASKA 5A World rated tournament and drew many of the top competitors in the nation. Potasznik's competition was first and she went against the number one rated forms competitor in the nation. She entered Traditional and Creative forms divisions and place 4th in Creative. She placed 3rd in her sparring division. The NASKA circuit has 6 adult women's black belt sparring divisions and Beasley competed in the 40 and over division. She won 3 fights to take first place in her division, but lost to the light/middle weight winner of the 18-29 division for the grand championship run-off. Beasley placed 6th in forms.

The Potaszniks made a turnaround trip arriving in California late Friday and leaving Saturday evening after the competition. They arrived in Dallas Sunday morning about 5:00 am. Beasley, however, took the opportunity to tour the stars' homes, visit the Chinese Theater and get a first hand look at the set up for the Academy Awards. It's been rumored that after her first place win when asked “What are you going to do now?” that Beasley answered “I'm going to Disneyland !!” AND SHE DID!
